#197 - Personal Entry: Ten Pounds of Soul

This past New Year I made a commitment to gain "ten pounds of soul". (#177 - Good-bye 2007!)

After four months of prayer, the first lesson for soul weight gain arrived :

"I lack humility."

That's all there is to say right now.

Rainbow 4 (by Joan & Dave)

Little Bear received his first Holy Communion on Saturday.

The photo above was taken by Joan and David (my sister and her husband) at the end of the day.

After the Mass, and the party, there was a terrific patch of weather on the drive home.

The end of the day was blessed with rainbow.

My sister sent several photos in the family e-mail, I choose this one as a favorite.

In the background are the lush green trees that are budding with Springtime.

In the foreground are the dormant trees reaching up to the sky in a way decribed by Stephen Sondheim as "Broken Umbrellas".

Notice how the light and the rainbow touch the branches that are stretching out highest to the sky?

The rainbow is a Biblical sign of God's promise to all people.

And in this photo I thought of all of us who feel like the "broken umbrellas" at times. Even then, the light still touches.

Even when brittle, dry and not knowing when you may bloom again...

the light is always there.
